Most major credit cards are accepted throughout the US, including American Express, MasterCard and Visa. Even if the final payment is not to be done using a credit card, you will still most likely be asked to provide one.

ATM

ATMs are widely available across the state.

Travellers cheques

Although it is now more common to travel with a debit card, visitors can still obtain travellers’ cheques to use for their time in the US. Travellers’ cheques issued in US dollars are widely accepted at large stores, restaurants, and hotels. However, when trying to use them, one or two items of identification (passport, credit card, driving licence) is often required. Cheques issued in other currencies will need to be exchanged for cash at a bank or currency exchange office.

Currency restrictions

There are no restrictions on the import or export of local or foreign currency. However, amounts in excess of $10,000 or equivalent should be declared at customs.
