Driving directions:

The main road to Madeira Cristiano Ronaldo Airport is the Via Rápida (R101). The drive along this route from the centre of Funchal to the airport (heading northeast) takes around 15 minutes.

Public Transport

Public transport road:

Bus: SAM (tel: 291 201 151; www.sam.pt) buses run hourly (with some variations during the day) between Madeira Cristiano Ronaldo Airport and Funchal city centre. The journey time on the regular bus service is about 25 minutes, and the fare is €3.25. The Airport Express bus to Praia Formosa takes 45 minutes and costs €5.

Terminal facilities

Money:

A bank, currency exchange office and several ATMs are available in the terminal building.

Food:

There are a number of cafés, bars and restaurants on each level of the terminal building.

Shopping:

Madeira Cristiano Ronaldo Airport has quite a large shopping area. There are regional handicraft and flower shops, as well as news stands in the public areas on the ground and first floors. In the departure area, Madeira embroidery and handmade leather products can be picked up, alongside the usual mix of duty-free items and souvenirs.

Luggage:

A left-luggage facility is located on the ground floor. The police station (tel: (291) 520 889), which is located near the terminal, deals with queries about lost and found items.

Other:

A medical centre (tel: 291 520 769) on level 1 is on hand to deal with emergencies. Baby change facilities are located in toilets in several areas of the terminal. A hairdressers’ can be found on level 1.

Airport facilities

Conference and business:

Madeira Cristiano Ronaldo Airport has two VIP rooms: one on the ground floor and another on the first floor. Extensive meeting and conference facilities are available at the Vila Galé Santa Cruz Hotel (tel: 291 529 000; www.vilagale.pt), which is just 3km (2 miles) away in Santa Cruz.

Communication Facilities:

Wireless internet access is available in certain ‘hotspot’ areas of the terminal building; the first 30 minutes are free of charge. Public telephones are located at various points. A post office is located on level 1.

Disabled facilities:

Madeira Cristiano Ronaldo Airport offers good accessibility for passengers with reduced mobility, with ramps and lifts where needed, as well as toilets and reserved parking.

Car parking:

Car parks 0 and 1 are located opposite the terminal; the former only offers short-term rates, while the latter is also available for long-term options. Car parks 5, 6 and 7 are a little further from the terminal, and offer both short- and long-term parking.

Car rental:

There is a good selection of car hire providers at Madeira Cristiano Ronaldo Airport. These include: Avis, Guerin, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and Rodavante.
