About Malta International Airport (MLA)

Often referred to as Valletta Airport due to its close location to Malta’s capital, Malta International Airport is the country’s aviation hub. Our guide to the airport provides information on terminal facilities, local transport and nearby accommodation options.

The Customer Services Centre (tel: +356 2124 9600) is located inside the check-in hall and is open around the clock. Malta Tourist Information (tel: +356 2369 6073) has a centre in the Welcomers' Hall (Arrivals) and is also open 24 hours a day.

Driving directions:

Upon leaving Malta International Airport, take the main road to Marsa and head northeast to Valletta along Triq Sant' Anna. The city centre and airport are both clearly signposted. The drive time from central Valletta is approximately 20 minutes.

Public Transport

Public transport road:

Bus:Malta Public Transport (tel: +356 2122 2000; www.publictransport.com.mt) buses X1, X1A, X2 and X4A depart regularly to Valletta from a bus stop outside the check-in hall (journey time: 25 minutes; fare: €2 in summer, €1.50 in winter)

Other buses serving the airport include the X3 and X86, which link the airport to the northern town of Ċirkewwa.

Shuttle:The Malta Transfer shuttle (www.maltatransfer.com) connects to various destinations in Malta. One-way fares start from €5. Ticket desks are located in the baggage reclaim area.

Taxi:There is a fixed-fare taxi service operated to all areas of Malta. The fare to Valetta from the airport is €10, and the journey time is about 20 minutes. A taxi booth is located in the Welcomers' Hall (Arrivals), from which prepaid tickets can be purchased.

Terminal facilities

Money:

There is a Bank of Valletta branch in the SkyParks Business Centre, which is adjacent to the terminal. ATMs are available in the check-in hall, arrivals carousel and the Welcomer’s Hall. A HSBC Currency exchange facility is also available in Welcomer’s Hall.

Food:

There are numerous places to eat within the terminal, both pre and post-security. These include fast-food outlets and a pub in the food court on the lower level, as well as cafés, food outlets and a bar in the departures area.

Shopping:

There is a good choice of duty-free (for passengers leaving the EU), gift, fashion and general service shops at Malta International Airport – particularly in the departures area.

Luggage:

A left-luggage service is available 24-hours a day at the airport information desk in the check-in area. For lost and found items, enquires should be directed to the customer services desks in the check-in hall and in the Schengen departures area (tel: +356 2369 6000). Baggage wrapping is also available in the check-in hall.

Other:

There is a chapel on the lower level of the terminal. Those with babies can make use of the parenting rooms in the check-in hall and departures lounge, which are equipped with changing and feeding facilities.

Airport facilities

Conference and business:

Conference facilities (tel: +356 2369 6514) with a capacity of up to 40 delegates are available on the lower level. The new SkyParks Business Centre (tel: +356 2125 7722; www.skyparksbusiness.com), which is next to the terminal, also offers meeting and conference space.

The members-only La Valette executive lounges (tel: +356 2369 6292) in Departures and Arrivals provide a range of VIP services, including 'meet and greet' concierge, chauffeur-driven cars, complimentary refreshments, as well as computer, telephone, fax and Wi-Fi.

Communication Facilities:

Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout Malta International Airport. Additionally, there is a post office in the check-in hall. Public telephones and charging points are also provided.

Disabled facilities:

The terminal has wheelchair-accessible toilets, ramps and low-level payphones. Reserved parking spaces are available in the car park. Assistance should be arranged in advance, prior to arrival at the airport with either Air Malta (tel: +356 2299 9371) or Aviaserve (+356 2369 6554.

Car parking:

There are spaces for 650 cars in the car park, which is opposite the terminal and is linked by a walkway. The car park offers both short- and long-term parking rates; the first 10 minutes of parking is free. Car parking enquiries should be directed to Airport Parking Ltd (tel: +356 2369 6475).

Car rental:

Car hire desks are located in the Welcomers' Hall (Arrivals). Companies represented at the airport include: Avis, Budget, Dollar, Europcar, First, Hertz, Sixt and Thrifty. The car hire car park is a short distance from the terminal.
