Travelling to Kazakhstan by Rail
Services run twice a week from Almaty to Urumchi in China and every other day to Moscow (journey time - 3 days). Trains also connect Moscow and Nur-Sultan (Astana) every two days. Between Tashkent and Almaty, there are trains about twice a week.
Foreign visitors should exercise caution when using trains other than the Moscow trains; violent crime against Westerners is on the increase.
