Currency information
The official currency of Liberia is the Liberian Dollar (LRD; symbol L$) and subdivided into 100 cents. Banknotes are in denominations of L$100, 50, 20, 10, and 5. Coins are in denominations of L$1 and 50, 25, 10, and 5 cents.
Alongside the Liberian Dollar, the US Dollar (USD) is widely used and accepted throughout the country. US Dollar banknotes commonly in circulation include $100, $50, $20, $10, $5, and $1. Prices are often quoted in both currencies, and many transactions urban areas are conducted in US Dollars.
Although the Liberian Dollar and US Dollar circulate side by side, the Liberian Dollar is not formally pegged to the US Dollar, and exchange rates may fluctuate.
Credit cards
Credit cards are not widely accepted; cash is the main form of payment across Liberia.

ATMs are available and they dispense Liberian dollars.

Currency restrictions
You must declare any cash or traveller’s cheques valued at USD 10,000 or more when entering Liberia.
When departing Liberia, travellers are not permitted to carry more than USD 7,500 in cash.
Currency exchange
Foreign currency, especially US Dollars, can be exchanged at banks, authorised forex bureaus, and money changers in Liberia. Major banks in Monrovia and other large towns typically offer currency exchange services. Licensed money changers operate in urban areas and at key border crossings, but travellers should exercise caution and use only reputable services to avoid counterfeit notes or unfavourable rates.

Overview
Travellers entering Liberia are subject to the following duty-free allowances:
• 200 cigarettes or 25 cigars or 250g tobacco.
• 1 bottle of spirits and 1 bottle of wine
• 1 bottle of perfume or eau de toilette.
Banned Imports
Banned imports include obscene materials in any form, narcotics, and subversive publications or materials considered likely to disturb public order.
