Information:

The Customer Service Centres, which are open daily from 0530 to midnight, can be found in the arrival and departure areas of both terminals (+852 2181 8888 general enquiries). Multimedia booths are located in the arrivals halls, with interactive information and touch-screen maps. There are dozens of 24-hour help phones located throughout the terminal.

Driving directions:

From Hong Kong Island, follow road signs to Western Harbour Crossing. Once out of the tunnel, drive along the West Kowloon Expressway; follow airport road signs and cross the Tsing Ma Bridge to the airport island, Chek Lap Kok. Then continue along North Lantau Highway to reach the airport. The driving time is approximately 30 minutes, depending on traffic.

Transfer between terminals:

A free automated people mover train runs between the departures area of Terminal 1 to the SkyPier ferry terminal and from Terminal 2 to the gates. Electric vehicles can also transport passengers around the terminals for a fee.

Public Transport

Public transport road:

Bus: Public buses depart from the Ground Transportation Centre and from near car parks 1 and 2. Buses are operated by Citybus (tel: +852 2873 0818; www.nwstbus.com.hk), Long Win (tel: +852 2261 2791; www.lwb.hk) and New Lantao Bus Company (tel: +852 2984 9848; www.newlantaobus.com). Night buses take over after midnight.

There are 12 Airbus routes to various parts of Hong Kong, including North Point Ferry Pier, Hung Hom station and Lam Tin station. Frequent external bus services are also available.

A 24-hour Discovery Bay Airbus service, operated by DB Transit (tel: +852 3651 2345) connects the airport to Discovery Bay.

Shuttle: Four airport shuttle routes connect the airport to various points in Hong Kong. Additionally a number of the larger hotels in Hong Kong offer a direct shuttle service from the airport. For enquiries about this service, head to Counter C15 in the Coach Station in Terminal 2 (tel: +852 2738 9500).

Coach: Cross-border coaches, run by four operators, offer regular services between the airport and major Guangdong cities on mainland China. A valid travel document for entry to mainland China is required.

Taxi: Taxis are readily available from the taxi station outside arrivals. There are separate queues for various services: urban taxis are red and serve almost all destinations in the city; New Territories taxis are green; and Lantau taxis are blue. Taxis to Hong Kong Island or Kowloon take about an hour (subject to traffic).

Public transport rail:

Rail: The MTR Corporation Airport Express Line (tel: +852 2881 8888; www.mtr.com.hk) operates trains that leave the airport for downtown Hong Kong approximately every 10 minutes between 0554 and 0048 (journey time: 24 minutes) stopping at Hong Kong and Kowloon stations, where check-in and free porter services are available. The station is located in the Ground Transportation Centre between the passenger terminals.

Public transport water:

Water: TurboJet (tel: +852 2859 3333; www.turbojet.com.hk) provides high-speed ferry services between the airport’s SkyPier and six points in the Pearl River Delta (Dong Guan Humen, Macau, Zhuhai Jiuzhou, Zhongshan, Shenzhen Fuyong and Shenzhen Shekou). Tickets are available from the ferry transfer desk in the arrivals hall. An Automated People Mover connects the Terminal 1 arrivals hall with the ferry terminal. This service is for transfer passengers only.

Terminal facilities

Money:

There is a bank in Terminal 2 and several bureaux de change counters and ATMs throughout both terminals.

Food:

There are more than many options for food and drink at Hong Kong International Airport, including fast-food outlets, full-service restaurants and cafés.

Shopping:

Shops, including gift retailers, designer boutiques and duty-free outlets, are available in both terminals. There is a 24-hour convenience store in the arrivals hall of Terminal 1. A pre-order and pick-up service for duty-free products is available.

Luggage:

Trolleys are available at all passenger drop-off points. A porter service operated by Worldwide Flight Services (tel: +852 3918 5000) is available at various points, including the baggage reclaim hall and the departures areas. A left-luggage facility (tel: +852 2261 0110) is situated in the Arrivals hall on level 3 of Terminal 2.

Lost and found services are available at the Lost and Found Office (tel: +852 2182 2018) in Shop 088 on Level 5 of Terminal 2, as well as at the airport police report centre and via the help phones.

Other:

Other facilities available at Hong Kong International Airport include a massage centre, a non-denominational prayer room (in Terminal 1) and a medical centre (tel: +852 2261 2626) inTerminal 1. The Relaxation Corner and Relaxation Lounge on the same level is open 24 hours a day and provides shower rooms, semi-private relaxation rooms and a mini salon.

Children's play areas are located throughout departures, while nursery rooms are located at various points throughout the terminal.

For pre-flight entertainment, there is an IMAX 3D cinema on level 6 of Terminal 1 and various exhibitions throughout the concourses.

Airport facilities

Conference and business:

The Airport World Trade Centre is located next to Terminal 2 and has extensive conference facilities. Further conference and business facilities are available from the Plaza Premium Lounge (tel: +852 2261 2612; www.plaza-network.com) between the two terminals, and the on-site Regal Airport Hotel (tel: +852 2286 8888; www.regalhotel.com). In addition, there are several airline lounges as well as a number of airside multimedia lounges for departing passengers.

Full conference facilities are available at the huge Asia World Expo convention and exhibitions complex (tel: +852 3606 8828; www.asiaworld-expo.com) located next to the airport site.

Communication Facilities:

Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout the terminals. Additional internet access is provided by desktop computers which are positioned at various points in the terminals. A post office is located in the departures hall of Terminal 1 and over 150 pay-phones are available.

Disabled facilities:

Hong Kong International Airport is fully accessible for disabled travellers. There are plenty of wheelchair-accessible toilets, lifts, ramps and escalators around the airport. The terminal shuttle train is also wheelchair-accessible. Escalators and walkways have audio warning signals, while lifts, toilets and telephones have Braille signs. Tactile path guides and induction loops are installed at various points.

Wheelchairs are provided free of charge by airlines; passengers should inform the airline prior to travel. For more information on wheelchair hire and in-terminal transportation, passengers should contact Worldwide Flight Services (tel: +852 3918 5000).

Car park spaces reserved for disabled drivers are available in car parks 1 and 4.

Car parking:

There are three car parks at Hong Kong airport, as well as the SkyCity car park, with space for over 2600 vehicles. Car park 1 is short-term, while car parks 2 and 4 offer both short- and long-term options. Complimentary 30-minute parking is available in car parks 1 and 4. Car rental:

Driving is chaotic in Hong Kong, and self-drive car hire is rare. Most people wishing to rent exclusive-use vehicles rather than using taxis opt for chauffeur-driven cars; these are available from Trans-Island (tel: +852 3193 9332; www.trans-island.com.hk), and Parklane Limousine Service (tel: +852 2730 0662; www.hongkonglimo.com). Both companies have desks in the arrivals areas.
