About Keflavík International Airport (KEF)

Keflavík International should not be confused with Reykjavík Airport - Keflavík International is about 50km (31mi) southwest of Reykjavík, while Reykjavík Airport (the main domestic airport) is just 2km (1mi) from the city centre.

Driving directions:

From Reykjavík, head south on Route 40 (which became Route 41) in Suðurnes. Continue on Route 41 towards Keflavík and follow the airport signs.

Public Transport

Public transport road:

Bus: Straeto manages public buses in Iceland and the number 55 connects Keflavík International Airport with BSI (the main bus terminal in Reykjavík) and other places. You can find the timetable here. Passengers can pay for travel with cash, bus passes or the Strætó app.

Shuttle: Flybus (+354 580 5400) and Airport Direct (+354 497 8000) run scheduled shuttle service to and from Keflavík (just outside Arrivals). Passengers are advised to book in advance. There isn't a fixed timetable from the airport but the service is regular enough.

Taxi: Several taxi companies offer services to and from the airport – you can check the complete list of taxi providers here. The fare to Reykjavík starts at around 18,000 ISK.

Terminal facilities

Money:

Arion Bank has two foreign exchanges services in Arrivals and Departures, respectively. In addition, there are 14 ATMs located throughout the terminal, including six in Arrivals where Icelandic krónur can be withdrawn.

Food:

There are several options, including a pizzeria, a bar, and a few cafés located in the Departures hall.

Shopping:

The duty-free shops at Keflavík International Airport Icelandic sell skincare products, handicrafts, and of course, Icelandic wool and thermal products. In addition, the usual cosmetics, alcohol, confectionery, tobacco and books are also available.

Brennivín, Icelandic-style aquavit, makes a great gift and can be purchased at duty-free.

Luggage:

Items lost within the airport and on Icelandair and PLAY Airlines are managed by Securitas. You can contact them by sending an email (lostproperty@securitas.is) or filling the form on this webpage. There is also a Lost & Found counter in the Arrivals Hall, open from 08:00-16:00 every day.

If you have travelled with other airlines, contact them directly.

Other:

A small playground is located next to Departures area C in the South Building. VAT refund is managed by Arion Bank in the Arrivals hall. Please note that you must request a VAT refund before checking in your luggage.

Airport facilities

Conference and business:

Icelandair Saga Lounge (open from 05:00 to 17:00 every day) is located in the terminal building after security.

Communication Facilities:

Wi-Fi is free – passengers only need to accept the terms and do not need to enter a password.

Disabled facilities:

Adapted toilets and lifts for wheelchair users are available. Passengers with reduced mobility requiring assistance should contact the airline at least 48 hours before the scheduled departure time.

Car parking:

There are three car parks – P1 and P2 are short-term car parks while P3 is a larger long-term parking area in the north of the terminal. In addition, there is also a Meet & Greet area marked PL. Fares are cheaper if you pre-book online.

Car rental:

International car hire companies such as Avis, Budget, Europcar and Hertz are present at Keflavík International Airport.
